Translation from Finnish by Regine Pirschel
Just a few days before Jom Kippur, the Day of Atonement and the most important day in Jewish religion, chief investigator Ariel Kafka is confronted with the most severe case in his career at the Helsinki violent crimes unit. Two Arabs are killed next to the railway bridge of Linnunlaulu. Shortly after, Kafka and his team hit upon two more bodies. They, too, were Muslims – and they will not remain the last victims.
To make matters worse, the Israeli foreign secretary has announced an unofficial visit to the Jewish congregation. Of all people, Kafka’s brother Eli has set out to protect the Jews of Helsinki, and he urges Kafka to disclose confidential information.
Are Eli and the chairman of the Jewish congregation justified to warn against an islamistic attack against the synagogue? But why does Kafka again and again come across Jewish parishioners in the course of his investigation?
