20-year-old Lila decides to take a radical step: instead of following her parents’ wishes and starting law school in Bielefeld, she gets off the train in Bochum and begins life on her own terms.
Using a trick, she wheedles private detective Danner into giving her a place to stay, and then a job as well. Danner, a notorious loner, has reached a dead end in his most recent case: Eva, just 16 years old, has committed suicide at her school. His friend Staschek, whose daughter was friends with the dead girl, has hired Danner to investigate the reasons for her suicide. But even after managing to smuggle himself into the school as a gym teacher, he can find out nothing about her motives.
